C43 Reservoir
The C-43 West Basin Storage Reservoir (WBSR) is a project under the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP), which aims to restore the water resources of central and south Florida. The C-43 WBSR is designed to store local basin stormwater runoff and releases from Lake Okeechobee and to reduce discharges from Lake Okeechobee to the Caloosahatchee Estuary during the wet season while providing freshwater flows to the estuary during the dry season to balance salinity levels and support plants and wildlife. The reservoir is being built on a 10,500-acre parcel in South Florida. Depending on storage needs, it will have a water depth ranging from 15 to 25 feet. It is also intended to provide public access and recreational opportunities and maintain allocated water supply to local agricultural areas.
